Watson 2

The 'Watson 2' is Sailing Heritage. The City of Nieuwpoort is the proud owner of this beautifully restored lifeboat.

Three of these types of Watson boats were ordered in 1946 from the Samuel White yard on the Isle of Whight (UK). In 1948 it was launched in Nieuwpoort. This boat has an exceptional historical, industrial-archaeological and scientific value. Historical, because of its use as a rescue ship, industrial-archaeological because of the power of the two diesel engines and scientific because of the well-considered use of wood and its unsinkable property.

The 'Watson 2' came back to Nieuwpoort in 2018. A group of enthusiastic volunteers dismantled the boat down to the smallest brass screw and put it back together into a real showpiece.
