Father and son of family "De Patoul" started building their motor yacht on their property in Uccle in 1944. After six years, the yacht was transported by road, through Brussels, to Klein-Willebroek. In 1950, the yacht was christened "If" after R. Kipling's poem.
In 1981, the petrol engine was replaced by a diesel engine Fiat and the ship was renamed after a second christening. The 'Cleydael' then became the property of Joe, the current skipper, in 2021, with the intention of keeping the vessel in its original condition and history to sail the inland waterways.
'Cleydael' is built in 7mm steel, has six berths divided into three staterooms with a bathroom in the forecastle. The saloon and dining area are located above the engine room together with the galley and laundry in the aft.
