Ostend at Anchor joins forces with VZW Restart, which is responsible for the restoration of lifeboat 3.

Lifeboat 3 was taken out of the water in 1980. The intention is that the ship will be able to choose the wild water again by 2024 at the latest. Rescue boat 3 will then certainly become a worthy ambassador of our Ostend maritime history alongside the two-masted sloop Nele and numerous classic Ostend yachts. By the way, the City of Ostend fully supports the project.

The VZW Restart wants to bring the ship back to its original state. At the end of May 2020 the restoration project was given a new canopy, but it is the intention of the association to build a permanent structure or to borrow it temporarily! If you know someone from the business world who has an empty shed, please feel free to contact hubert.rubbens@telenet.be. Only the entrance gate has to be big enough to allow the ship to enter.

During Oostende voor Anker 2021 from 27 to 30 May, the shipyard will be open to the general public at shed I in the port area, so you can discover for yourself how the restoration work is progressing.

You will also be able to help them and the VZW will start a “crowdfunding”. Every euro is welcome. Help this noble goal, because the “lifeboat 3” will certainly sail again !

A donation can also be made on our own account: (in this case there is no tax certificate).
