The cathedrals of the sea keep on coming

After meetings at the IJsselmeer (NL) and Tallinn (LT), I am delighted to welcome the three-masted Gulden Leeuw to the 21st edition of Ostend at Anchor. This unique ship will be a beacon during Ostend at Anchor and, if not at sea, open to the general public. Due to her depth, the ship will be moored behind the Ostend railway station at the cruise quay! Welcome in Oostende dear friends !!!!
The Gulden Leeuw was designed and built as an ocean-going ship with ice class. In combination with the chosen rigging, it has become a fast, solid ship. The owners wanted a ship that can really sail. The rigging should not just serve as decoration, but really have good sailing qualities. The Gulden Leeuw is a three-masted topsail schooner; the foremost mast is higher and rigged as a yardsail. This very versatile rig combines the advantages of a square rigger and a longitudinally rigged ship. You can sail high to the wind and pick up the trade winds. With this Tallship they can sail all international waters.

Because the owners rebuilt the ship themselves, they could take into account what functions the ship would have. For example, the deck has been designed so that “sail-training trainees” can safely carry out many operations themselves. For corporate hospitality, they found it important, among other things, to be able to connect the interior space with the exterior space well. For both functions, a top-notch kitchen was obviously a priority.
