Hedwig Maria

The Hedwig Maria was built in the year 2000 on the basis of the English construction drawings in Livorno. Then the ship was equipped with its gaff rig, mast and other round timber at the yard of Ebbe Anderson (in Denmark). In 2004 the ship was completed at Ernst Schneider's yard in Gröbersy (Germany).

The boat is built entirely in teak and mahogany in the traditional way. The exterior mainly has the sturdy English working boat appearance. Inside it is finished as a yacht. The Falmouth Working Boats have been used as oyster fishermen on the south coast of England from the beginning of the last century. Until now this has been done in the traditional way under sail. Originally they were "open" ships. In the summer when oysters are not being fished, the ships are provided with large gear and sailing competitions are sailed with them. The Hedwig Maria is a member of the Old Gaffers Association.
