Libertijn

With a few pencil marks on a napkin, Mr P.A. Sipman from Driehuis once depicted the simple contours of a nine-metre-long grundel in the local café. A high head to defy the waves, a large superstructure with large windows for sufficient headroom and light, a curved gaff and swords. Lo and behold, a traditional sailing vessel for recreational sailing was born. Remarkably enough, the appreciation for the design, which seemed to come so off the cuff at the time, is still growing after all these years.

Baarda Jachtbouw in 's Gravendeel made the modern version of the Grundel from 1964. The steel ship, which has a draft of only 80 cm with its box keel, is a real family ship. With its relatively small sail area and high sides, it is reliable on the waves. Our sea grundle 'Libertijn' was built in 1974, under license, by the brothers Loose from Made.

The zeegrundel has four to five berths and a well thought-out layout in which the galley on starboard is placed opposite the dinette. The cockpit is wood paneled and in the engine room is a two-cylinder Volvo Penta engine, also built in 1974, with a capacity of 23 HP. The engine was completely overhauled in 2018.

All in all a ship without much ostentation, which exudes tranquility and tradition; perfect for people who are not in a hurry and want to enjoy the water.
