The “Doedelzaks de la Côte” are a group of musicians from Dunkirk who play traditional music from Flanders and French Flanders on Flemish bagpipes. The Flemish bagpipe differs from the Scottish one in several ways, but above all it has a much softer sound. They perform in historical costumes from the era of the great Jean Bart (a Flemish privateer in the service of the French king Louis XIV), and therefore proudly call themselves “corsairs” rather than “pirates.”
They have already taken part in many major maritime festivals, including in Sète, Boulogne, Calais, Dunkirk, Gravelines… and now they are here in Ostend. You will certainly be able to hear and see them somewhere, dressed in their magnificent costumes, as they stroll and play among the stalls and stands throughout the entire route.
