The "Fade Away II " is a boat of the écume type, a quarter tonner from the 70s.
The Écume de Mer (EdM) was the first series‑built model by the renowned yacht designer Jean‑Marie Finot. Designed for the IOR quarter‑tonner class, this sailing yacht quickly proved its worth by competing in – and winning – numerous races.
Between 1969 and 1980, the EdM was built at the Mallard shipyard in La Rochelle. The vessel is entirely of French origin, although the very first trial runs took place in 1968 on the Western Scheldt, with an aluminum prototype. In total, nearly 1,400 boats were produced – an impressive number that highlights the success of this design.
The popularity of the Écume de Mer is easy to explain: excellent sailing performance, elegant appearance, surprising interior space, and solid construction.
Today, the EdM is an integral part of the polyclassic world of sailing yachts. They still look modern, yet remain true veterans that continue to be appreciated by a wide audience worldwide.
