'Hedda' is a Freeward 30 motorsailer, the predecessor of the iconic Fisher range. The first two hulls were built on the Isle of Wight, but hull numbers 3, 4 and 5 have since disappeared without trace. 'Hedda' is hull number 6, moulded in 1970 by Robert Ives and fitted out by Pennington Yachts in Hampshire. She is also the oldest registered example within the Fisher Owners Association.
Her first owners, John and Stella Appleby, registered her in 1973 as Freebooter of Hamble in the British Ship Register. She then passed through several hands, with the last recorded registration dating from 1992.
In 2002, the vessel was purchased in Gloucester Docks. She was renamed 'Hedda' and entered into the Small Ships Register. Since then, she has been thoroughly refurbished and modernised. Today, “Hedda” once again sails regularly on the North Sea and the English Channel, a beautifully preserved example of early motorsailer design.
