The 'Tainui', a Sadler 34 yacht, has been owned by its current owner for 19 years, who sails between 2,000 and 2,500 nautical miles annually. Its cruising grounds stretch from Sweden to Brittany, including the west coast of Scotland.
The design originates from Martin Sadler, co-developer of the iconic Contessa, a landmark in yacht design. The Sadler 34 was introduced as an unsinkable vessel, thanks to foam-filled compartments throughout the hull. This construction not only enhances safety but also provides excellent insulation, making the yacht particularly well-suited for cold-weather sailing, such as on the North Sea.
A distinctive feature is its tandem wing keel, an experimental design that ultimately offered no significant advantages over a conventional wing keel, yet adds to the unique character of this vessel.
