Students and teachers from the Maritime Institute Mercator (a secondary school) provide explanations about life and work on board. In addition, they also give demonstrations of rope and net making.

The ship
Since its construction in 1967, this remarkable ship has built a unique history. Originally designed as a commercial vessel, it was repurposed just a few years later as a training ship. In its early years, it served as a learning platform for four maritime schools in Ostend and Zeebrugge, playing a crucial role in shaping young seafarers.

In 1986, the ship was acquired by Lucien Desmit, who proudly brought it into the family. Since then, it has been cherished as a symbol of tradition and craftsmanship, continuing to play a significant role in educating students to this day. It is currently used by two schools: the Ibis and the Maritime Institute of Ostend (formerly known as the John Bauwens).
