Feasting during Ostend at Anchor

From all these fun activities, one would get hungry at times. Fortunately, there are many food stands at the festival that fit in with the maritime atmosphere. Authentic delicacies that are a must-taste are on offer at various locations. A traditionally smoked herring, or perhaps a delicious ice cream for dessert? Fortunately, you can also wash down all these delicacies with a cool drink. Here is a sample of what is on offer.

Sint-Petrus- en -Paulusplein

Salmon smoker Dinkelstroom

One of the top things that many EastEnders like to travel down to the craft village for is Dinkelstroom's locally smoked salmon. With passion and enthusiasm for a good product, they cook and smoke the fish in a large smokehouse over an open fire. The end result gives a delicious flavour as fish should be.

Vindictivelaan

Oostendse Visbakkers

This association is committed to promoting the Ostend fishing industry and eating fish. So be sure to come and taste some delicious fried fish on a sandwich.

Haringroker René

René from Enkhuizen is now an old acquaintance at Oostende for Anker. You will find him on Vindictivelaan, he is known for his traditionally smoked herring. Seeing René at work is an experience in itself.

Visburger van Les Filles du Bord de mer

Straight from the source, packed with kilos of 'fisherman's wisdom' and the freshest fish from the North Sea. Les Filles du bord de mer makes fish burgers in a trendy beach cabin on wheels.

Jantje Vanille

Jan the milkman provides delectable ice cream. You can see his brightly coloured retro ice cream cart standing at the Amandine from afar.

Mercator

Madam Kroket

For artisanal shrimp croquettes, EastEnders have been finding their way to Madam Kroket for years. You can buy the immensely popular croquettes at the shop on Visserskaai or at the stand near the Mercator. A bite into one of these croquettes guarantees an explosion of flavour, so definitely worth a stop.

Have a drink?

The place to be for a drink is the Sailors Club, the terrace of the VZW Oostende voor Anker and the large terrace on Sint-Petrus- en -Paulusplein. Daily performances also take place here and the ambience is guaranteed.

Er is meer

After your visit to Ostend for Anchor, you can head into town to enjoy yourself further. If you like to indulge in culinary delights, there are many brasseries and restaurants from the seafront to the city centre.

By the way, did you know that Ostend is the capital of the shrimp croquette? The City by the Sea even has a shrimp croquette festival where 11 restaurants compete against each other. We would like to mention the top restaurants that make the very best croquettes according to a professional jury.

Brassi Grand Café got first place in 2022. The restaurant in Ostend's Kursaal and with a sea view serves a menu inspired by Ostend's elegance, French cuisine classics and bistro favourites.

Le Bassin came second. As a hotel restaurant, Le Bassin is a choice address for a weekend in Ostend. The creative chef loves regional products and distinct flavours. He also plays on these strengths with his homemade shrimp croquettes and North Sea fish dishes.

Completing the stage was Café Botteltje. This is not only the place to go for the largest beer selection on the Belgian coast, but also for a crispy break.

In turn, the public chose North, Eetkaffee Poseidon and Toope. But maybe you should just go and taste for yourself which one you like best?
